info
Snake Alley, located in Burlington, Iowa, is renowned as one of the most crooked streets in the world. Built in 1894 by German immigrants, its design was inspired by vineyard paths in Europe. The alley spans 275 feet and features five half-curves and two quarter-curves, ascending 58.3 feet with a 21% grade. Constructed with limestone curbing and locally fired blue clay bricks, it remains a testament to innovative 19th-century engineering. Recognized by Ripley's Believe It or Not! as the "#1 Odd Spot" in America, Snake Alley hosts annual events like the Snake Alley Criterium bike race and the Snake Alley Art Fair.
